Amagansett Yard Sales
Established in 1680 and now a hamlet of the Town of East Hampton, Amagansett occupies the stretch of Route 27 between East Hampton Village and the Napeague isthmus leading to Montauk. Its name comes from the Montaukett language and is generally translated as 'place of good water,' a reference to a spring near present-day Indian Wells beach.

About Amagansett
Early English settlers, including the Baker, Conklin, and Barnes families, were joined by the Dutch Schellinger brothers in the late seventeenth century. Further Lane, running south of Main Street toward the ocean, contains one of the largest concentrations of large estates in East Hampton. In June 1942 a German U-boat landed four Operation Pastorius saboteurs on the Amagansett beach; the original Coast Guard station that received the report has been moved twice and now houses the East Hampton Town Marine Museum on Bluff Road. The Devon Colony, established in the late nineteenth century by Procter and Gamble executives on the bayfront north of the highway, is one of the older seasonal enclaves in the hamlet.
