1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect through HamptonsYardSales.com and our related services (the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide. When you create an account, submit a yard sale listing, save sales, sign up for our newsletter, fill out our partner contact form, or message us directly, you give us information such as your name, email address, phone number (if you choose to share it), the address and details of the sale, photos, the items you are selling, and any comments or notes you include.

Information from publicly available listings. For listings we compile from public sources, the host name, address, photos, and contact information shown were already made public by the host elsewhere on the web. We display that already-public information here, sometimes with formatting and summary edits applied with the help of automated tools, so the community can find local sales in one place. We do not enrich it with private data we do not already have. If you originally posted such a listing and would like it removed, see Section 8 below or email us at privacy@hamptonsyardsales.com.

Information collected automatically. When you visit the Service, we and our service providers automatically collect basic technical information such as your IP address, approximate location derived from that IP, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring page, and the pages and listings you view. This information helps us run the Service, measure how it is used, and prevent abuse.

Information from third parties. If you sign in using a third-party account (for example, Google), we receive basic profile information from that provider as permitted by your settings with them. We do not receive your password.

3. How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
• Display yard sale listings on the directory and on the map.
• Review and moderate listings — for example, to confirm a sale appears legitimate before it is published.
• Communicate with you — to confirm a submission, respond to a question, send our newsletter if you have opted in, or send important account or service notices.
• Detect, prevent, and respond to abuse, fraud, security issues, and outages.
• Understand how the Service is used in aggregate so we can improve it (for example, which neighborhoods are most active or which listings are most viewed).
• Comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

4. How information is shared

Listings and what is public by design. Yard sale listings are public. The address, photos, sale details, and any contact information you choose to include in a listing are visible to anyone who visits the Service — that is the point of a directory. Please only include information in a listing that you are comfortable sharing publicly.

Service providers. We share information with companies that help us run the Service. These currently include our authentication provider (which manages sign-in and account credentials), our backend and storage provider (which hosts our database and uploaded photos), our hosting provider (which runs the website itself), our maps provider (which serves map tiles and helps display listings on a map), our analytics provider (which helps us understand how the Service is used), our error-tracking provider (which alerts us when something on the site breaks), our bot-protection provider (which helps stop spam submissions), and, when applicable, our email provider (which delivers newsletter and transactional email). These providers may only use your information to provide services to us and are bound by confidentiality and security obligations.

Partner contact form.When you fill out the contact form on a partner’s page, the email address and message you provide are sent to that partner business so they can follow up with you directly.

Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, legal process, or government request, or is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of HamptonsYardSales.com, our users, or the public.

Business changes. If HamptonsYardSales.com is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will require the receiving party to honor this Privacy Policy with respect to your information.

No sale of personal information. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

We and our service providers use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, secure the Service, and measure how it is used. You can usually control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect parts of the Service — for example, signing in.

6. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please contact us at privacy@hamptonsyardsales.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it. Our Terms of Service additionally require that anyone under 18 use the Service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian.

7. How long we keep information

We keep information only as long as we need it to provide the Service, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Listings are kept while they are active and for a reasonable period after a sale ends so that recent history is searchable. Account information is kept while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account or a listing, we remove it from the live Service promptly, though copies may remain in routine backups for a limited period before they age out.

8. Your choices and rights

Your account and listings. You can review and edit much of your information by signing in. You can remove a listing you posted, or close your account, at any time. If you need help, email us at privacy@hamptonsyardsales.com.

Listings compiled from public sources. If you originally posted a yard sale that appears on our site and you would like it removed, email privacy@hamptonsyardsales.com with a link to the listing on our site. We will remove it promptly, typically within a few business days.

Email. Once we begin sending the newsletter, every message will include a one-click unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing from the newsletter does not stop essential service messages — for example, account or listing notices.

Regional rights. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under your local laws — for example, the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, or to object to certain uses of it. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at privacy@hamptonsyardsales.com. We will respond consistent with applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a right.

9. Security

We use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. No service is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee the security of any information you provide. Please use a strong, unique password for your account and let us know right away if you believe your account has been compromised.

10. International users

HamptonsYardSales.com is operated from the United States and our service providers are primarily located in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., which may have data protection rules different from those in your home country. By using the Service from outside the United States, you consent to that transfer and processing.

11. Third-party links

The Service may include links to other websites — for example, an original posting for a publicly available listing or a partner’s website. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. Please review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If the changes are material, we will also try to give you reasonable notice — for example, by posting a notice on the site or, where appropriate, sending an email. Your continued use of the Service after the updated policy takes effect means you accept the changes.
