About Mattituck
Mattituck Inlet is one of the very few harbors on Long Island Sound east of Port Jefferson and is the only natural harbor on the fork's Sound shore. The meadowlands here were originally held in common by the founders of the Town of Southold after its 1640 settlement. The annual Mattituck Strawberry Festival, run by the local Lions Club on Father's Day weekend, has been held since 1955 and remains the hamlet's signature event. Mattituck functions as the busiest commercial center east of Riverhead, and the residential streets running off Route 25 toward the bay and the Sound generate a steady run of yard and estate sales through the season.
