About Jamesport
The hamlet sits between Aquebogue to the west and Laurel to the east, with Peconic Bay defining its southern shore. The Jamesport Meeting House on Main Road, completed in 1731, is the oldest operating church building in Suffolk County. After the Long Island Rail Road reached the area, Jamesport developed as a resort, with several large bayfront hotels operating into the early twentieth century, and the local economy also leaned on scallop and menhaden fishing. Today the hamlet sits in the heart of the regional wine corridor, with vineyards and farm stands along Route 25, and an older housing stock that surfaces in regular estate and tag sales.
